The signing of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty is a complex task — Dmitry Zhuravlev 

Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev commented on the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Everyone wants to sign the peace treaty; there is no doubt about it, but the question is in the details. I have long said that the problems will arise with particular matters. Pashinyan said he was ready to sign the treaty, but then the particular matters arose. This is a very difficult task, not even political, but social and cultural, so it is very difficult to sign the treaty.

Baku has its own proposals on the border; they do not coincide and cannot coincide in principle because the Armenian side sees the situation one way and the Azerbaijani side another. They can meet halfway, but it is very difficult to do it. There is no position that would fully satisfy everyone. In general, everyone supports peace, but in particular, there are problems. The signing of a treaty is possible, but then specific issues will have to be considered during the next stage of negotiations. And this will mean that the actual signing will take place next time, while now they will sign a certain declaration,” Zhuravlev said.
