Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Alexander Krylov commented on Azerbaijan’s further actions and the probability of escalation of the conflict in the South Caucasus.

According to the expert, the further situation in the South Caucasus will depend on the relations between Armenia and Russia.

“Azerbaijan will make more claims and put forward new demands. This policy is dictated by the current situation. Azerbaijan’s position is now stronger than ever before. Azerbaijan constantly prepares the ground for escalation and has been doing it for the past 30 years. And it has really achieved a lot. It has returned to its control those 11,500 square kilometers that were under the control of Armenia. So Azerbaijan will continue this policy and will take advantage of the favorable situation if it occurs.

The most important thing here is how the situation may develop. If now the demands to break off relations with Russia in the military sphere and withdraw the Russian base will be met and, indeed, relations with Russia will be spoiled to such an extent that Russian troops and border guards will leave Armenia, then, of course, the situation will develop. Then both Azerbaijan and Turkey may have prospects to solve the problem the way they want. So here I would pay attention to the cooperation between Armenia and Russia in the military sphere. The further development of the situation in the South Caucasus will depend on it,” Krylov said.
