The United States never tied the signing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement to COP29, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

According to him, Washington wanted to see a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan months ago.

“We never tied the agreement to COP. We wanted to see a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan months ago and have been pushing for a peace agreement, ultimately hoped to get one over the line. But that’s up to the two parties, not the United States,” Miller added.

COP29 will be held on November 11-22 in Baku.
