Pashinyan’s very flexible spine gives Baku the opportunity to hope for more – Alexander Dudchak

Speaking with Alpha News, Alexander Dudchak, a senior researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries, commented on the prospect of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“We can assume that Pashinyan has a very flexible spine, which gives Baku the opportunity to hope for more. Therefore, Baku is still waiting, maybe Pashinyan will come up with something and hand over some more. He sometimes shows such enthusiasm in surrendering the Armenian territory, why not wait, maybe he will come up with something else, offer something else.

Judging by the actions of Pashinyan’s government, they are ready to surprise further. Maybe they will agree to Turkey’s terms. Everything is possible. You can expect anything from Pashinyan and he may actually accept Turkey’s conditions. That’s why Baku is holding a pause,” Dudchak said.

Speaking about the possibility of an escalation of the conflict in the South Caucasus, the political scientist said that provocations can be organized if London and Washington decide so.

“If London and Washington decide that it is necessary to spark a conflict, I think that everything is possible and provocations can be organized. This is indeed a territory where it is convenient for instigators to arrange their evil plans, and, unfortunately, no one is safe from this. There are many such hotspots especially along Russia’s borders. The Baltic States, and the borders of Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, of course, Transnistria, the Caucasus, and then Central Asia-everything is not so smooth there either. They are trying to create tension around the entire perimeter of Russia, and some countries, in particular, in the Caucasus, are ready to play along with such a scenario,” Dudchak concluded.
