Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev commented on the UN Climate Change Conference COP29 taking place in Baku and noted that the summit was poorly organized.

“I would not call this summit a successful publicity stunt, to put it politely. And it is actually difficult to say whether Azerbaijani President Aliyev or his apparatus is to blame for this. Any similar summit is needed to consolidate the result. The summit is the end of the text, not the beginning. And in Baku, as far as I understand, they decided that it was the beginning. In other words, you must have negotiations, you must reach a result, and then hold a summit. You, having gathered different people, must get them to agree first and only then announce the summit.

It seemed to me that the summit was not prepared sufficiently because collective public meetings are not the beginning of diplomatic activity but its end. It seems to me that Aliyev wanted to get publicity both inside the country and outside, but I believe, so far, this has not been very successful,” Zhuravlev said.
