Artsakh people will either end up on the street or leave Armenia — Lianna Petrosyan
The aid program provided to the Artsakh people in the amount of 40,000+10,000 drams was revised yesterday at the government meeting. Fewer Artsakh people will now benefit from the program, and in July it will be cut by 10,000. Alpha News had a conversation on this matter with social activist Lianna Petrosyan.
“I tried to convey to the government and decision makers an important message that the 40+10 program is not a serious social support for solving everyday issues; it is, first of all, support provided for rental housing, which displaced persons should receive until they find their own home. Unfortunately, another unwelcome decision was made at the government meeting. This aid program should not have been reconsidered. It should have been for everyone because everyone is considered a vulnerable group. This, of course, will cause a huge wave of discontent among the displaced people,” Lianna Petrosyan said.
She noted with regret that after the revision of the aid program, many Artsakh Armenians may end up on the street.
“If this support is not continued, people may, first of all, end up on the street because this is the only source from which they can rent housing. A few months later, people may face various problems. Firstly, there will be a problem with apartments, and landlords should either demand this money or people should vacate apartments and look for an alternative to this. This is the most deplorable thing. Housing fees outside Armenia are more affordable, and based on this, displaced persons are forced to leave Armenia and build their future outside Armenia. Unfortunately, the government did not listen to our proposals that were aimed at solving this problem,” Lianna Petrosyan said.
