Alexis Ohanian showcases rare coin featuring Tigranes the Great

Alexis Ohanian, Armenian-American entrepreneur and Reddit co-founder, posted a video online, showcasing an ancient Armenian coin from the time of Tigranes the Great and sharing a piece of Armenian history with his followers.

“This coin was made in ~95 BC and is on my desk in 2024.

If you’re Armenian (or just a history buff), you know about Tigranes the Great and how under his reign, the Armenian kingdom expanded to become the most powerful state to the east of the Roman Republic. This series of super rare coins feature Halley’s comet which appeared during the Tigranes reign and was seen as a sign of good luck.
