Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has been invited to Russia and his visit may take place soon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said that Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will sign a document on strategic partnership between the two countries in Washington on Tuesday.
Lavrov also commented on Armenia’s membership in the European Union, noting that it is incompatible with simultaneous participation in the EAEU. Lavrov recalled the statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, who is in charge of EAEU development, about the incompatibility of the EAEU and the EU.
“The Armenian government has the right to decide on joining any international union. But it should weigh the pros and cons and take responsibility for the consequences,” he said.
According to Lavrov, the EU and the EAEU are two incompatible organizations. “These are two different free trade zones, two different systems of reducing or waiving duties and tariffs, they do not coincide,” the Russian foreign minister added.
