The Armenian community in Poland has a long and rich history, Hovhannes Gevorgyan, vice president of the Union of Armenian Youth of Poland, said in an interview with Alpha News.

“To preserve the community, we need to move beyond the traditional approach—not just making investments from Armenia, but building a living connection with our homeland: organizing events, providing financial support to Armenian schools, holding summer camps for Polish-Armenian children so they can spend a month in Armenia,” he said.

According to him, the Diaspora should invest in Armenia to feel like a full-fledged participant in the processes.

“It is also important to understand what Armenia expects from the Diaspora. For example, the Institute of Eurasian Studies conducted a survey among Jews in 2019-2020, asking whether they needed the Diaspora and vice versa. A third of respondents answered negatively. I believe that in the case of Armenians, the overwhelming majority will give a positive answer. And if so, then this should be followed by specific actions and programs,” Gevorgyan added.

He stressed that it is necessary to improve relations between Armenia and the Diaspora and develop a strategic plan.

“We need a 10-20 year program. We need individuals who will write books, organize conferences in Armenia and abroad, attract teachers and professors—particularly in Armenian history and culture. This will strengthen the influence of the Diaspora,” Gevorgyan said.
