Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and Americanist Dmitry Drobnitsky commented on what to expect from the meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev with US President Donald Trump. According to the political scientist, everything the Trump administration is doing now is for publicity.

“As you know, Trump recently said that he had stopped five conflicts. Among other things, he said that he forced the Houthis to capitulate, destroyed Iran’s nuclear program, destroyed BRICS, and that American submarines are 20-25 years ahead of everything else in the world. Therefore, judge for yourself how engaged the current Trump administration is in any real affairs. This administration cannot currently engage in any real affairs. Name a peace agreement in the past 80 years, brokered by the United States, that truly benefited the negotiating parties. That’s why I urge all those heading to Washington—especially to this administration—to reflect on the full history of so-called American peacekeeping in foreign policy,” Drobnitsky said.

According to the expert, Trump will probably say that a “beautiful” agreement has been concluded, but the consequences will not be very good.

“Trump will almost certainly say that a beautiful agreement has been concluded—something no one else could achieve, but he did. But the consequences of this will not be very good for those who sought US mediation. My personal opinion is that turning to Washington for mediation from within Eurasia is a very bad idea,” Drobnitsky concluded.
