Fourteen Armenian organizations in Argentina have expressed their protest against the campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church. Alpha News spoke with Alex Hajian, Secretary of Press and Communications at the Armenian Center in Argentina, about this issue.

“The news coming from Armenia—especially the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church—gives us cause for deep concern. We have sent an open letter to the Armenian Embassy in Argentina, calling on the parties to resolve the issues through dialogue and to maintain respect for each other,” Hajian said.

Speaking about the arrest of philanthropist and businessman Samvel Karapetyan, he said that this was not a good sign, since the world saw how a person was arrested in Armenia for supporting the Church.

“We have openly expressed our support for Samvel Karapetyan. I believe that his imprisonment is unjust. He has done great things for both the Church and the Armenian people. And I think it is not a good sign when the world sees that someone in Armenia can be arrested for exercising freedom of speech or for supporting the Church,” Hajian concluded.
