Armenia has itself agreed to all the preconditions set by Turkey and is currently fulfilling them, Turkologist Mher Abrahamyan said in an interview with Alpha News, commenting on the agenda of the upcoming meeting between the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey.
When asked whether any progress could be expected during the upcoming meeting, the expert said, “I do not consider progress likely, because there are specific conditions set by Turkey that Armenia has not yet fulfilled. These are mostly related to Azerbaijan, and the issue here is that Armenia would need to amend its Constitution and abandon its national policy.”
According to him, the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations is directly tied to the Armenian-Azerbaijani process.
Abrahamyan also noted that over the 30-year history of Armenian-Turkish relations, similar meetings have been held repeatedly, but none have yielded results. “Turkey is not interested in opening the border with Armenia until a peace treaty is signed with Azerbaijan,” he added.
