In an interview with RIA Novosti, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin commented on the possibility of any threats to Armenia and Azerbaijan’s continued membership in the CIS, emphasizing the ongoing normalization of relations between the two countries.

When asked about possible threats, he responded, “Threats from whom? To whom and from whom?” He stressed that “CIS membership is entirely voluntary.”

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, both countries frequently join joint statements and documents adopted at various levels. “I don’t know where the word ‘threat’ came from. It’s a voluntary association of states. Moreover, we see that normalization of relations is underway between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We hope this will also be a positive factor for their continued participation in the CIS,” he concluded.
