Catholicos of All Armenians meets with Pope and invites him to Armenia

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II met with Pope Leo XIV and extended an invitation for him to visit Armenia, the press office of the Mother See reported.

The meeting took place at the Apostolic Palace in Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence.

During the meeting, the Catholicos congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election to the papacy and on his 70th birthday, emphasizing the strengthening of fraternal ties between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Catholic Church.

He also informed the pontiff about the plight of Armenians from Artsakh who have been displaced from their homeland, and the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in the region. At the conclusion of the visit, the Catholicos invited the Pope to Armenia.
