The “Real Armenia” ideology is very dangerous, said educator and public figure Mher Garagashyan in an interview with Alpha News.
“It raises the question—where have we been living until now? In an imaginary Armenia? If this project becomes law, I believe it will amount to legalized censorship,” Garagashyan said.
Commenting on the proposal to rename the school subject “Armenian History” to “History of Armenia,” he emphasized that Armenian history is not confined to the ideology of the current government. “This drives a wedge between the Diaspora and Armenia,” he noted.
When asked whether the authorities might eventually use the right tools to reconnect Armenians with their true roots, Garagashyan replied, “Let them try. This is a narrow and false ideology. No one can take away our identity.”
He also expressed hope that the people will maintain a healthy awareness and defend their identity.
