Students of Armenia’s Institute of Physical Culture win European Universities Chess Championship

The 2025 EUSA European Universities Chess Championship concluded in Yerevan with a brilliant performance by students from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport. They claimed gold medals in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The men’s team not only won the main championship but also triumphed in the blitz tournament. The team featured international grandmasters Shant Sargsyan and Mamikon Gharibyan. The women’s team included Mariam Avetisyan and Mariam Khachatryan.
The championship brought together 40 teams from 32 universities across 17 European countries, with around 120 delegates arriving in Armenia. The tournament was organized by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in collaboration with the Armenian Student Sports Federation and the Armenian State University of Economics, with support from the Armenian Chess Academy.
