West, Turkey, Israel, US, and UK allow Azerbaijan to speak as it wishes – Arthur Khachikian

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev recently stated that there is no Lake Sevan, there is Lake Goycha. Alpha News spoke with Arthur Khachikian, a political scientist at Stanford University, about this issue.

“How many years will we have to explain that this man will not stop? I’ve been saying this for at least four years, but it’s not getting through. Our society does not understand what is coming next. Pashinyan first said, ‘Karabakh is Armenia, period,’ then, ‘Karabakh will never be Armenia,’ then, ‘Let’s surrender Karabakh and live in peace,’ but that didn’t work. Then, ‘Let’s surrender Kirants and live in peace,’ and that didn’t work. And now it’s Sevan. And what regions do we have around Sevan? Vardenis, Shorzha. Now we need to go to the residents of these regions and say, ‘Dear ones, Aliyev said Karabakh must be surrendered, and it was surrendered. And now he’s saying Sevan is theirs too.’ Don’t you understand what the next step is?” Khachikian said.

According to him, Aliyev can afford to make such statements because he possesses strength, intelligence, a capable army, and the backing of half the world.

“The West, Turkey, Israel, the US, and the UK allow Azerbaijan to speak as it wishes because they all have their own interests. The UK and the US are planning to invest heavily in this corridor. Trump wanted it to pass through our territory, and he got it. Israel has enormous strategic interests. The UK and the US want to push Russia out of the region, and so does Turkey. The interests of all these countries align with those of Azerbaijan. Aliyev can afford to make such statements: he has the strength, the intelligence, the army, and the backing of half the world. Isn’t it still clear what will happen next?” Khachikian concluded.
