Five-month investigation shows that goal is not legal process, but retribution – Aram Vardevanyan

Speaking with Alpha News, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan commented on the statements of the head of the Investigative Committee regarding the unlawful political persecution of philanthropist and businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

“It is surprising how the chairman of the Investigative Committee, with some astonishment, presents the position that a phrase such as ‘we will participate in the defense of the church in our own way’ is, according to the investigative body and the prosecutor’s office, considered a call for the violent seizure of power. The chairman of the Investigative Committee expressed surprise at how this episode could be separated from the criminal case and sent to court,” Vardevanyan said.

He noted that Karapetyan has been in detention for more than 130 days, and a group of 53 investigators of the Investigative Committee has still not been able to adopt any final procedural act in this case.

Vardevanyan added that the five-month-long investigation has demonstrated that the true objective is not a legal process, but retribution.

“Ultimately, this five-month investigation shows that the goal here is not a legal process at all. Their goal is revenge, since such a promise was made on June 17,” Vardevanyan added.
