On November 4, German scholar and human rights activist Tessa Hofmann, who for many years has headed the Berlin Working Group for Recognition, Against Genocide, for International Understanding (AGA), thanked German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for awarding her the Order of Merit—one of the highest state honors of the Federal Republic of Germany.

At the same time, Hofmann appealed to the head of state to assist in the release of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages, and political detainees who, according to her, have been unlawfully held in Azerbaijani prisons since 2020 in violation of international and humanitarian law.

Tessa Hofmann is a research scholar at the Free University of Berlin and is actively engaged in human rights advocacy.
