Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and military expert Pyotr Kolchin commented on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine. According to the expert, judging the feasibility of Trump’s plan is very difficult, as Kyiv and the EU are trying to fill the information space with different theories.
“As President Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov rightly noted, Trump’s plan for Ukraine is the subject of an information frenzy. This is largely an element of information warfare: Kyiv and the EU are trying to fill the information space with various theories, different scenarios, and contradictory information to slow down the diplomatic process. Therefore, judging the feasibility of Trump’s plan is very difficult. But it is important to note that, overall, Washington’s initiative is based on Russian proposals. We have seen the White House’s position evolve, and now, based on the information we have, we can conclude that the US has taken these positions into account. But to what extent they have been considered, and how acceptable they will be for Russia, remains unclear. Europeans and Americans are saying that the plan has been adjusted based on negotiations, but there are no clear details about specific changes. Therefore, we can only observe endless information instability around this topic,” Kolchin said.
According to the expert, there is a lot of speculation surrounding Trump’s peace plan, both from Europeans and Ukrainians, as well as from all interested media outlets.
“I am confident that in a few days the information landscape will be more stable and calm, and the Kremlin and the White House will provide comments on the current situation. For now, however, this is all just one big field for speculation among Europeans, Ukrainians, and all interested media,” Kolchin concluded.
