Ashot Minasyan’s arrest linked to 2020 criminal case, lawyer says

The arrest of Sisakan detachment commander Ashot Minasyan is not related to a new criminal case, his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan told Alpha News.

“We have nothing more to add. Only what has already been circulated,” the lawyer said, adding that the matter concerns the criminal case initiated in 2020, within which clearly unlawful judicial acts were adopted.

According to Poghosyan, as a result of instructions given to judges by the state, Ashot Minasyan was sent to a penitentiary institution to serve his sentence under the framework of the 2020 case.

The lawyer did not provide further details, stating that he will answer all questions during the upcoming press conference.

It should be noted that yesterday evening Ashot Minasyan was taken to the Sisian police department, then arrested and transferred to the Vardashen penitentiary institution.

In October the Criminal Court of Appeal sentenced Ashot Minasyan to 1 year, 10 months, and 3 days of imprisonment. He is accused in the alleged case of preparing the assassination of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which was initiated after November 9, 2020.
