On December 21, following extensive restoration, the Saint Gregory Armenian Orthodox Church in central Baghdad was inaugurated by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani.

Located on Al-Tayaran Square in the Bab Al-Sharqi district, the church is a major spiritual center for Iraq’s Armenian community. It was built between 1954 and 1957 with the support of philanthropists Simone M. Garibian and Calouste Gulbenkian.

The site also includes an Armenian cemetery, a museum, and a memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, established in 1904.
