It is a very dramatic and responsible moment for our region, said Victor Soghomonyan, founder of Alpha Media House and Doctor of Political Science, in an interview with Alpha News. He was commenting on the regional situation as well as Armenia’s domestic and foreign political circumstances.

“In Armenia, Russia’s geopolitical interests are clearly defined: there is a Russian military base, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). These frameworks are incompatible with Turkish interests and ambitions. That is precisely why Nikol Pashinyan ‘does not cut the thread’ and does not cross the ‘red line,'” Soghomonyan said.

According to him, there are two possible scenarios: “First, Russia, for certain reasons, redefines its interests in the region, and Turkey seizes all positions. This is the first scenario, though it is unlikely. The second scenario is that Russia strengthens its geopolitical stance and continues to maintain its influence. I believe these are the developments that await us.”

Addressing the upcoming elections, Victor Soghomonyan emphasized that Armenia is not in a normal political state. “There cannot be so many political prisoners, nor arrested archbishops. This situation cannot continue for long. One-man rule in Armenia cannot last indefinitely. Political recovery must begin today,” he said.
