Trump threatens Iran’s leadership: Will Washington strike Tehran?

Amid ongoing protests in Iran, US President Donald Trump’s latest statement is noteworthy, in which Washington threatens to strike Tehran if Iran uses force against peaceful demonstrators.

According to Iranologist Zhanna Vardanyan, Trump’s statements clearly carry the message that Washington is ready to support any process against Iran’s authorities, including waves of protest.

“Trump has already made such threats three times. They were made even at a stage when the protests had not yet reached their current intensity, which indicates that the US has long had a defined approach toward Iran’s authorities and is simply waiting for the right opportunity,” Vardanyan said.
