Verkhny Lars border crossing closed to all traffic

The road from Georgia to Russia through the Verkhny Lars checkpoint has been closed to all types of vehicles. Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs Emergency Situations Department and North Ossetia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations Crisis Management Center reported the closure.

“Due to the risk of avalanches on the Gudauri–Kobi section of the international highway Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars, all traffic has been banned,” the statement said.

Truck passage has remained suspended since January 9.
