Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a briefing, responded to a question from Alpha News regarding the pressure on the Armenian Apostolic Church by the Armenian authorities.

“We are, of course, regretfully observing how the situation is unfolding. Both the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Simonyan, and Prime Minister Pashinyan in a recent interview did not deny that hybrid threats exist against Armenia from Russia. These hybrid threats are linked to the situation with the Armenian Apostolic Church. But for us, this can only cause bewilderment, and rapprochement with the EU does not go unnoticed—I cannot fail to mention this, since it is the EU that constantly insists on hybrid threats allegedly generated by Russia. They provide funding for such work; just recently Armenia was granted a tranche of 15 million euros. And I have no doubt that the Brussels bureaucracy will force our Armenian friends to account for every cent.

By the way, in the context of Armenia, when attempts are made to convince it to distance itself from Russia, it was none other than Kaja Kallas who declared that Moscow would act in Yerevan according to the Moldovan scenario. If you recall, the Moldovan scenario involved grossly rigged elections, which the ruling Sandu regime lost domestically, receiving only 44% of the vote, and was able to finally declare victory only thanks to blatant manipulations at polling stations in Europe. If Kallas openly admits that the Moldovan scenario will be applied to elections in Armenia, I believe Armenian society should take this very seriously,” Lavrov said.
