Authorities are ready to destroy Armenian identity in order to retain power – The People Speak

January 24 2026, 13:50

As part of “The People Speak” project, Alpha News conducted surveys in Yerevan and Armenian-populated communities in the United States and Russia to determine citizens’ opinions on the most pressing issues.

Respondents are concerned about Armenia’s security, the preservation of national identity, and the government’s campaign against the Church. Participants in the survey described the current leadership’s actions as unilateral concessions and a rejection of national values.

“Normalizing relations with neighboring countries cannot occur solely through concessions from the Armenian side, especially when it comes to Genocide recognition or national dignity. Nikol Pashinyan can improve relations with everyone, but not at the expense of the Armenian people,” said one respondent.

Citizens believe that peace statements are populist in nature, and their main goal is to retain power.

“This man is willing to do anything to maintain his position; he is destroying the Armenian identity. Our national identity cannot be trampled upon. We have survived for 2,000 years thanks to the Church. Calling the Church derogatory names today is an attack on our national identity,” noted another respondent.
