Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko spoke to Alpha News about US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the political scientist, this is an attempt to strengthen US influence in the region.

“The purpose of Vance’s visit is obvious—it is an attempt to reinforce the pro-Western course of Armenia’s leadership and perhaps to promise something. As for the results, it is very difficult to speak about them now, if at all possible. The main outcome may simply be the continuation of Armenia’s current slow process of distancing itself from Russia, which suits the United States quite well. It is possible that this course, this desire to distance itself, will intensify and proceed with greater momentum.

However, this path is fraught with a number of economic and other difficulties for Armenia, and it is unlikely that the Americans, including Vance, will be able to compensate for them in any way. So I believe this visit is essentially a review of positions—an attempt to consolidate US influence in the region and to preserve and expand it,” Bezpalko said.
