The head of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I received Archbishop Paolo Borgia in the Monastery of the Holy Mother of God, the Catholicosate press office reported.

During the meeting, which lasted more than an hour, they discussed presidential elections in Lebanon, relations between the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia and Vatican as well as other inter-ecclestial issues.

“His Excellency drew Paolo Borgia’s attention to the situation in Artsakh, which has been blockaded by Azerbaijan more than 8 months. The catholicos reminded that “Armenian church and Armenian people have always been grateful to Pope Francis of Vatican on the issue of Armenia and Artsakh, as well as Vatican’s positions and statements in general.

We know that Pope Francis expressed his deep concern about the blockade in Artsakh and emphasized the need to end it immediately”, the statement said.

The Catholicos also stressed: “Our people expect Vatican to continue to express its solidarity with Artsakh through various means, especially in the international community”.
