Armenia has many political forces oriented toward constructive cooperation with Russia, which is part of a long-standing historical tradition. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

She stressed that Moscow and Yerevan share a special relationship, but that Russia cannot stand apart from the processes unfolding in the republic including the adoption of amendments to the Electoral Code.
According to her, the new changes may introduce significant restrictions on the names of parties eligible to participate in elections. It is important that these measures do not become a tool for deliberately narrowing the electoral opportunities available to the opposition.

Zakharova recalled that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at his meeting with the Russian president, described Armenia as a democratic country, and that this must be reflected in its electoral procedures.
