Manouchehr Mottaki, a member of the Iranian parliament, said in an interview with the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency that at the beginning of Ilham Aliyev’s presidency, certain groups created compromising material against him, which forced him to cooperate with Israel.
Mottaki also stated that Israel conducted espionage operations through its embassy in Azerbaijan and used local airports to refuel fighter jets for potential strikes against the Islamic Republic.
