US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Armenia was more propagandistic than substantive, according to Robert Kocharyan, the country’s former second president and the Armenia bloc’s candidate for prime minister.

“It is clear that the visit by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio took place at the request of the Armenian government and had more of a campaigning character, the documents could easily have been signed in a different format,” Kocharyan said in a conversation with journalists.

He stressed that the agreements signed do not send positive signals to Iran and could have been concluded after the end of the Iran-US conflict.

Kocharyan also expressed bewilderment at the enthusiasm of the US authorities in their support for Nikol Pashinyan.

“I do not understand why they are so actively interfering in the internal political space. This clearly bodes nothing good. I think steps are being taken to complicate Russia’s or Iran’s relations, and we are being turned into nothing more than a submissive instrument in this process,” the former president stressed.
