We are in a Baku prison by the will of Armenia’s authorities: David Ishkhanyan

David Ishkhanyan, the chairman of the Artsakh National Assembly, sent a message from a Baku prison, which was published by his family. In it, he noted that as far back as January–February 2024, officials had hinted: “you will be here for as long as Armenia’s authorities wish it.”

According to Ishkhanyan, at first such words seemed incredible, it was hard to believe that one’s own authorities could have no desire to secure the return of their citizens. From his current vantage point, however, the situation has become clear: the course of events and attempts to link the trial to political processes in Armenia leave no room for doubt, turning assumption into conviction.

He stressed that the recent statements about Karabakh residents, statements that do not reflect reality, make it especially clear who bears responsibility for what is happening.

“Be that as it may, we have been here for nearly three years now. But neither our principles, nor our composure, nor our strength of spirit and will have abandoned us. That will remain the case going forward,” his message reads.
