The Armenian national basketball team will play a friendly match against the Ireland national team in the United States. The game will take place on June 27 at California State University in Los Angeles. This will be the fourth consecutive year the team has played matches there. In parallel, men’s and women’s youth national teams of 16, 18, and 20 years old age groups will also be assembled. Alpha News spoke on this topic with Artur Nazaryan, secretary general of the Basketball Federation of Armenia.

According to him, the main goal is to give compatriots living in the United States, young basketball players and athletes, the opportunity to watch the national team play in person and to feel the enthusiasm and sense that this is also their team. “It is one thing when people have been hearing about it or seeing footage for years, and quite another when they have the chance to actually see these players in person,” Nazaryan noted.

According to him, one of their main goals is also to popularize basketball and to attract as many children as possible to the sport. “The Ireland national team was founded in the 1930s, while our national team began competing on the international stage in 2016. So we are still at the stage of becoming,” Nazaryan stressed.
