Canadian Senator expressed his support to the people of Artsakh and congratulated Davit Ishkhanyan on his election

On August 14, Canadian Senator Leo Housakos has sent a congratulatory letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh Davit Ishkhanyan.

Housakos has noted that the election of Ishkhanyan comes as the Republic of Artsakh faces difficulties since the beginning of the blockade such as starvation, economic and humanitarian crisis, the ARF Hay Dat Office reports.

Canadian Senator has compared the Azerbaijani policy towards Artsakh with Great Ukrainian Famine (Holodomor) of 1932-33, criticizing the passive and silent attitude of Western democracies.

Housakos has also highlighted the importance of appeals of Canada and the international community to lift an 8-month blockade. He has also appreciated the impact of the former ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo and his idea on the importance of bringing this issue to the attention of international courts.

In conclusion, the senator has expressed his support to his colleagues in the National Assembly of Artsakh and to Davit Ishkhanyan personally, as well as to the people of Artsakh.
