Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, accused Josep Borrell, former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, of anti-Azerbaijani activity.

“It turned out that Josep Borrell maintained ties with certain corrupt individuals, including Mr. Ocampo, a former judge of the International Court. It emerged that he was financed by a Russian-Armenian oligarch (referring to Samvel Karapetyan — ed.), who is currently under house arrest in Armenia. A large anti-Azerbaijani group was operating within the European Commission, and we hope that Mr. Borrell has left politics for good. Since then, our relations have begun to improve. In particular, we’ve seen that there is an urgent need to mutually relaunch these relations, and we supported this initiative,” he said.
