Commenting on the statement by the US Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Americanist Vladimir Vasiliev, in an interview with Alpha News, emphasized that the Americans proceed from the principle “running with the hare, hunting with the hound”.

“Today, the position of the UN is more of a recommendatory nature. It does not have a mandatory meaning or influence, and, in general, it is more of a declaration of position. Usually the USA relies on economic leverage, and in this case, it is an opportunity for economic influence.

But on the other hand, given the fact that recently there has been a rapprochement between the United States and Turkiye, this position reflects the fact that the United States believes that they can have a greater influence on the situation around this corridor through Turkiye and, accordingly, Azerbaijan. In this case, the pressure on Armenia may be increased.”

The position proceeds from the principle “running with the hare, hunting with the hound”, that is, they want to show that the United States support Pashinyan’s regime, or rather the Pashinyan government. They are friendly towards Armenia, but at the same time, a political situation is pushing the United States to be more oriented towards the balance of power that is on the side of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

In this regard, there is a big loss for Russia. This neutral position, on the one hand, follows the desire to inflict damage or shake the position of Russia, in this case, to oust Russia from this region. And on the other hand, to maintain friendly relations with Armenia, because the Pashinyan government has a lot of hopes for the United States of America and at some points even takes a pro-American position.

Recall that at the UN Security Council meeting, US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that the United States is deeply troubled by the closure of the Lachin corridor, which has cut off access to essential goods and exacerbated the humanitarian situation.

The representative also appealed to the government of Azerbaijan to restore traffic along the Lachin corridor and noted the possibility of compromise on additional routes for humanitarian supplies. The United States will support any format of negotiations to achieve peace and continue dialogue toward a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
