“Brutal attack”: unknown assailant attempts to attack Bavarian premier by throwing tomato at him

An unknown individual attempted to attack Markus Soder, Bavaria’s Minister-President, during a festive event. This was reported by the German newspaper Bild.
According to the publication, the incident occurred on July 19. The politician arrived as guest of honor at a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the community of Bernau am Chiemsee, located in southern Germany. At the event, a man attempted to lunge at Soder.
“He suddenly jumped out of the bushes, threw a tomato at Soder, and ran toward him,” journalists reported.
The attacker was subdued by the Minister-President’s security guards, who handed the man over to law enforcement officers. It turned out that the person who attempted to attack Soder was a 31-year-old German citizen. He was taken into custody in connection with the incident. The report emphasizes that the politician was not injured as a result of the incident. The tomato thrown by the offender hit Soder in the left ear, but he simply wiped off the mess with a handkerchief and continued participating in the event.
