The Central Electoral Commission is continuing its review of the prosecutor’s motion to initiate criminal proceedings against Narek Karapetyan, member of the “Strong Armenia” party council and parliamentary candidate.
Speaking to journalists, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan described the ongoing process as unprecedented legal lawlessness and political persecution. According to him, a situation has arisen in which the CEC has confirmed that the candidate already holds the status of an elected member of the National Assembly, yet is nevertheless reviewing a motion to grant consent for the initiation of criminal prosecution against him.
“This is political absurdity, political persecution, and theater, aimed solely at interfering with Narek Karapetyan’s political activity and his work in the National Assembly. The Central Electoral Commission, which only a few weeks ago held a completely different position, has today changed its stance, a shift that followed an intensification of Karapetyan’s political activity,” Vardevanyan noted.
