Head of local branch of Turkey’s ruling party shot dead along with relatives

In Turkey, an attack targeted Mehmet Direk, a member of the leadership of the district branch of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti). Unknown assailants also shot his son and nephew; everyone attacked was killed, according to the newspaper Cumhuriyet.

The attack on the head of the local party branch took place in the evening at a city cemetery in the Guneykent district of Batman.

Police cordoned off the crime scene and have launched a search for the perpetrators.
