Armenia did not name timeframe for EU accession referendum: Peskov

No exact timeframe for a referendum on Armenia’s accession to the EU or on its continued membership in the EAEU was given during the conversation between Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, and Nikol Pashinyan, prime minister of Armenia, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian head of state.

Earlier, the press service of the RA cabinet of ministers reported that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, allowed for the possibility of holding a referendum on EU accession following an official application to the European Union.

“No, no exact timeframe was named, but nevertheless the need for holding such a referendum as soon as possible was emphasized. This is very important,” Peskov told journalists, answering a question about the exact timeframe for holding the referendum on Armenia’s accession to the EU.

On Monday, Putin held a phone conversation with Pashinyan at the initiative of the Armenian side.
