“This is interference in political activity”: Vardevanyan on the search at Narek Karapetyan’s home

Early this morning, law enforcement officers conducted a search at the private home of Narek Karapetyan, an elected NA deputy from the Strong Armenia alliance. Aram Vardevanyan, a lawyer, described the incident to journalists as an evident attempt at interference in political activity and political pressure.

“The search was conducted as part of a well-known criminal case. I can say with confidence that there was neither proportionality, nor necessity, nor common sense behind carrying out such a large-scale procedural operation. This is direct interference in political activity and yet another act of political repression,” Vardevanyan emphasized.

As a reminder, the RA Investigative Committee previously reported that the investigative actions are being carried out as part of a criminal case opened against Alik Aleksanyan. The case concerns charges of financially incentivizing individuals to participate in gatherings and money laundering on an especially large scale.
