Ghazaryan will not apologize for incident: “Strong Armenia”

The matter of lawmaker Edgar Ghazaryan’s statements was discussed in detail at a session of the opposition “Strong Armenia” faction. As a result, a decision was made not to issue a public apology. This was reported to journalists in parliament on August 14 by Narek Karapetyan, leader of the parliamentary faction of the opposition “Strong Armenia” bloc, commenting on the demands of the ruling majority and the internal position of the opposition bloc.

According to him, the faction has already fully formulated and delivered its official response, considering the matter closed for the team.

“At the faction meeting, we discussed the situation and made an internal decision that includes our position and the response that needed to be given. That response has already been voiced, and the matter is closed. There will be no additional explanations or apologies,” the leader of the “Strong Armenia” faction noted.

Narek Karapetyan also emphasized that harsh attacks and threats from representatives of the ruling “Civil Contract” faction will not force lawmakers to abandon their work.

Responding to a question about how the opposition is countering the authorities’ aggressive rhetoric and threats of removal from the chamber, he stated: “We remember very well why we are here and to whom we are accountable – to hundreds of thousands of our citizens. Our time is meant for solving people’s problems and improving their lives, not for settling personal scores. If we had come here to settle personal matters, they could easily have been resolved on the spot, but our main task is to serve society.”

As a reminder, a tense situation arose yesterday in the National Assembly during a speech by Edgar Ghazaryan, a lawmaker from the “Strong Armenia” faction. He accused representatives of the ruling force of “vile speculation” on the topic of a relative who died in the 44-day war. These words provoked a sharp reaction from pro-government lawmakers and a heated exchange that nearly escalated into a fight. Hayk Konjoryan, Vice Speaker, warned about the inappropriate behavior and threatened to “throw out” Ghazaryan from the chamber.
