Current leadership of Armenia lacks strategic thinking: Alexey Anpilogov
Political scientist Alexey Anpilogov commented to Alpha News on Armenia’s aspiration to swap the EAEU for the EU.
“The EAEU is Armenia’s economic present, a bird in the hand. The desire for EU membership is fraught with a host of problems; it’s a bird of paradise that may never arrive. This shows the shortsightedness of a leadership that believes Europe needs Armenian products,” the expert notes.
“Armenia’s leadership lacks sufficient strategic thinking to forecast the consequences. They will cut off their own economy at the knees, leave the EAEU, and end up with a murky associate membership in the EU with greater restrictions than those faced by Moldova and Ukraine. Industry and agriculture will be destroyed,” Anpilogov asserts.
In the political scientist’s view, the ruling circles are seeking only to become Euro-bureaucrats themselves.
“This elite believes it will be given a place in the corridors of power in Brussels, following the example of Kaja Kallas. That’s where they’ll have a branch to perch on, not in Yerevan,” he concluded.
