The US has imposed sanctions on the head of the International Criminal Court who issued an arrest warrant for Putin.
According to Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, the Trump administration added Tomoko Akane, ICC president, and Abdulaye Sey, senior court advocate, to the sanctions list. Rubio said Washington was thereby protecting Americans from a “sham court.”
This is not the first round of US sanctions against ICC representatives. Last year, several judges and prosecutors were placed under restrictions over arrest warrants for Israeli officials and investigations into American military personnel.
Washington has also stated that it intends to continue pressuring the ICC and urging other countries to withdraw from the organization.
