Armenia and Iran to create simplified customs corridor regime

Armenia and Iran will create a “simplified customs corridor” regime. The draft protocol between the two countries was approved at a meeting of Armenia’s government.

An explanatory note from Armenia’s State Revenue Committee states that the initiative to sign the agreement came from the Iranian side. According to the jointly developed draft, when clearing goods headed to the neighboring country, the customs authorities of one country will transmit electronic data on the goods and their senders to their counterparts. The receiving country will then inspect these shipments under a simplified procedure.

This kind of regime is planned to be adopted for those enterprises which the customs authorities of both countries do not consider to pose a risk of violating customs legislation. The option of simplified inspection will be available for all vehicles except private cars. The use of the simplified customs corridor will reduce the time spent on processing shipments and significantly speed up the passage of vehicles.
