Inan Akgun Alp, a deputy from Kars representing Turkey’s opposition Republican People’s Party, visited the Silk Road bridge (the historic Ani bridge) on the Armenian-Turkish border. The visit was reported by the outlet Ermeni Haber.

Speaking to journalists at the site, he addressed the normalization of Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, noting: “As is well known, the ancient city of Ani was included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2016. Right in front of us, on the other bank of the river, is Armenian territory. And the bridge you see here is the historic Silk Road bridge. We hope it will become a ‘Bridge of Peace.'”

According to him, they want the existing problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia to be resolved through the establishment of a lasting peace, and for border trade with Armenia to resume.

“We, the residents of Kars, want the efforts being made in this direction to definitely yield positive results,” the deputy concluded.
