Clearly illegal and criminal decisions: lawyer on latest developments in Robert Kocharyan’s case

Decisions made during this period regarding Robert Kocharyan, second President of the Republic of Armenia, are at the appeal stage. This was stated by lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan during a press conference at the Office of second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, commenting on the new criminal proceedings initiated against the president.

“We expect that in the next instances, the courts reviewing these cases will be guided by the letter of the law and will not repeat the examples set by their predecessors,” he said.

According to the lawyer, law enforcement bodies and the judicial system should approach this issue carefully and with restraint, since the current situation demonstrates worrying trends. “We regard the decisions made as clearly illegal and criminal, and therefore we call on law enforcement bodies and the judicial system to approach this issue with caution. Compared to previous years, we see that the new criminal proceedings have become much more blatant in terms of violating the law and completely disregarding human rights,” Khudoyan added.
