“This is Armenia’s artery”: Narek Karapetyan on the threats surrounding Tigranashen

The road through the village of Tigranashen in Armenia’s Ararat region is a strategically important highway connecting Armenia with Iran, carrying about 100,000 trucks and roughly 2 million tons of cargo annually. It connects Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Northern Armenia. This was stated by Narek Karapetyan, head of the “Strong Armenia” faction of the National Assembly, in a video address commenting on the prime minister’s statements regarding this settlement.

“If this territory is handed over, Azerbaijan will use its resources, petrodollars, to settle it with Azerbaijanis, creating a direct threat to the capital, Yerevan, and the surrounding settlements. Azerbaijan’s presence in the Tigranashen section would cut the sole main logistics and transport artery connecting the south and north of Armenia,” he said.

According to him, the policy of territorial concessions pursued by the authorities is being countered by a development concept that envisions creating a modern logistics and tourism center in this region with the aim of preserving and developing the homeland.
