Pentagon sharply increased military funding for Armenia in 2024

The US sharply increased military funding for Armenia in fiscal year 2024, with more than $60 million allocated in total since 2002, according to US government data reviewed by RIA Novosti.

Last week, Andrew Loomis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, stated that Washington intends to make full use of its programs’ potential to support the reform of Armenia’s armed forces.

US military assistance to Armenia under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program began back in 2002.

In total, through fiscal year 2024, cumulative US military funding for Armenia exceeded $60 million. According to Pentagon statistics reviewed by RIA Novosti, funding increased significantly in fiscal year 2024, when the US sent Armenia more than $8.1 million. In 2023, that figure was only around $16,000, and in 2022, it was around $1.3 million. Data for 2025 has not yet been published.

At the same time, Armenia received about $18 million between calendar years 2023 and 2024. In January 2025, the State Department announced that this amount had been allocated under FMF for a number of projects, including the development of a National Training Center for training military personnel. A month before that announcement, the head of the Pentagon said that funds for these purposes had been allocated over the previous two years.
